HISTORY

Not only are these flowers pretty to look at, but they also have an interesting story. The Syilx people, who are the original inhabitants of the Okanagan, have used the plant as a food source and for medicinal uses for generations. It was officially adopted as the floral emblem of the Okanagan in 1958. The decision to choose the arrowleaf balsamroot as the official flower was based on its significance to the area and its aesthetic beauty. Today, the flower continues to be an important symbol of the Okanagan Valley, representing the natural beauty and cultural heritage of the region.

BLOOM SEASON

The Arrowleaf Balsamroot flower blooms from late April to early June in the Okanagan Valley. This means that visitors to the area during this time can enjoy the sight of the bright yellow flowers dotting the landscape. The peak of the bloom usually lasts for about two to three weeks, depending on the weather. It’s a perfect time to take a hike or stroll in the outdoors and soak in the beauty of the Arrowleaf Balsamroot.
